Position:   Digital Archivist

Description:   This position is grant funded and will end on June 30, 2011.

The Digital Archivist is part of a team responsible for the preservation of MPR news & music programming and content as well as advising MPR management and production staff on strategies for preserving MPR programs. This position will work to create systems that preserve MPR digital content including audio, images, text and video. Additionally, the Digital Archivist will be active in the planning of a public portal capable of accessing MPR content. The position provides training for MPR staff in the use of emerging archive related technologies; assists in grant proposals; and other duties as assigned.

- Maintain the digital media archive which preserves all content produced by MPR|APM.
- Assist in the planning of a public portal capable of accessing MPR content.
- Assist in the digitization of physical analog reels and DATs in conjunction with the audio engineering department.
- Determine collection priorities and standards, consulting as needed with appropriate content departments.
- Train MPR|APM staff in the use of the digital media archive.
- Act as liaison between the archive and content producers, help with requests and maintain good relationships throughout MPR|APM.
- Work w/Technology and Broadcast Operations to optimize audio capture and import into the digital audio archive.
- Assure that the digital audio archive is served as MPR implements new production systems.
- Work w/the Broadcasting department to facilitate archive integration with procedures and SOPs.
- Assist in developing and maintaining statements of archival mission, policy and purpose.

Req's:

- BA or BS.
- Study or interest in Library Sciences, Communications, Computer Science or other related study.
- Min 3 yrs applicable experience, ideally experience with cataloging and the broadcasting/media industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of database organizational systems.
