| Description: | This position is unpaid/volunteer. The intern (web producer) will be part of the American Public Media online production team, working directly on the production and daily maintenance of the Prairie Home Companion and The Splendid Table web sites and online programming. The intern will work in a collaborative environment with a variety of broadcast and technology staff. - Format and prepare content for the web, email newsletters, podcasts, and other online programming. - Work with show producers and editors to identify Web opportunities that complement broadcast content. - Support the daily editing and updating of prairiehomecompanion.org and splendidtable.org - Work with the digital team to develop engaging content on social media sites, including Gather, Facebook and similar sites. - Develop and produce unique online content that enhances and augments the radio shows. - Support online production through research and writing, editing Web audio and video, and collecting assets for multimedia elements. - Checks work for HTML accuracy and browser compatibility. - Edits, proofreads, and writes incidental copy as necessary or assigned. - Other duties as assigned Education Credit - College course credit is available. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: - Demonstrated web production skills, including HTML, CSS, and Adobe Photoshop. - Excellent language skills including writing, proof reading; fluent computer skills with the knowledge of basic Internet and computer standards, directory structures, and common applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. - Ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision. - Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in multiple departments/divisions. Preferred Skills and Experience: - Experience developing in Flash - Experience with encoding audio for the web - Knowledge of scripting languages such as JavaScript and PHP helpful. |
